How Aspinwall may be improved Jocie G.jp

Visioning Workshop

During a meeting with the Department of Community and Economic Development, it was suggested that the Borough proceed with a visioning study that would lead to defining key issues consultants should address in the
subsequent comprehensive plan.

Accordingly, the borough invited members of the public to imagine the borough's future at an open house in May 2019. The meeting was a “drop-in” format. The borough provided refreshments and a children’s area to color. Residents located their homes on a large aerial map provided by the borough engineer and identified problem locations. Additionally, attendees filled post-it notes with ideas about great things in Aspinwall and what could be improved in the future. The meeting was very well attended, and hundreds of ideas were identified. These ideas will be drawn forward and considered as part of public input for the Implementable Comprehensive Plan.

Key themes for "what's great about Aspinwall" included warm and friendly neighbors and a small-town community feel, walkability, tree-lined sidewalks, the Memorial Day parade and service from first responders. Commonly mentioned ideas for improvement included the entrance to Riverfront Park at Brilliant Avenue, a bike trail along the river connecting to the Three Rivers Heritage Trail into Pittsburgh, enforcing parking regulations and slowing traffic along Freeport Road.
